Thoughts

Eleven Hints for Life

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return.
But what is more painful is to love someone and never
find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

2. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who
means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was
never meant to be and you just have to let go.

3. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a
porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away
feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

4. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose
it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been
missing until it arrives.

5. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an
hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-but it
takes a lifetime to forget someone.

6. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth,
even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you
smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day
seem bright.

7. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go,
be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and
one chance to do all the things you want to do.

8. Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it
hurts you, it probably hurts the person too.

9. A careless word may kindle strife. A cruel word may wreck
a life. A timely word may level stress. But a loving word may
heal and bless.

10. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best
of everything they just make the most of everything that comes
along their way.

11. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with
a tear. When you were born, you were crying and everyone
around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die,
you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Philosophy of S*

On Going Saga of Men And Women

WOMAN'S PERFECT BREAKFAST
She's sitting at the table with her gourmet coffee.
Her son is on the cover of the Wheaties box.
Her daughter is on the cover of Business Week.
Her boyfriend is on the cover of Playgirl.
And her husband is on the back of the milk carton.

Keep reading-they get better!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WOMEN'S REVENGE
'Cash, check or charge?' I asked, after folding items the woman wished to purchase.
As she fumbled for her wallet, I noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse.
'So, do you always carry your TV remote?' I asked.
'No,' she replied, 'but my husband refused to come shopping with me,
and I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him legally.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN
(A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE)
I know I'm not going to understand women.
I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax,
pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root,
and still be afraid of a spider.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CIGARETTES AND TAMPONS
A man walks into a pharmacy and wanders up & down the aisles.
The sales girl notices him and asks him if she can help him.
He answers that he is looking for a box of tampons for his wife.
She directs him down the correct aisle.
A few minutes later, he deposits a huge bag of cotton balls and a ball of string on the counter.
She says, confused, 'Sir, I thought you were looking for some tampons for your wife?
He answers, 'You see, it's like this, yesterday, I sent my wife to the store
to get me a carton of cigarettes, and she came back with a tin of tobacco
and some rolling papers; cause it's sooo-ooo--oo-ooo much cheaper.
So, I figure if I have to roll my own .......... so does she.
(I figure this guy is the one on the milk carton!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WIFE VS. HUSBAND
A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word.
An earlier discussion had led to an argument and
neither of them wanted to concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs
the husband asked sarcastically, 'Relatives of yours?'
'Yep,' the wife replied, 'in-laws.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORDS
A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day.
30,000 to a man's 15,000.
The wife replied, 'The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men...
The husband then turned to his wife and asked, 'What?'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CREATION
A man said to his wife one day, 'I don't know how you can be
so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time.
'The wife responded, 'Allow me to explain.
God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHO DOES WHAT
A man and his wife were having an argument about who
should brew the coffee each morning.
The wife said, 'You should do it because you get up first,
and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee.
The husband said, 'You are in charge of cooking around here and
you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait fo r my coffee.'
Wife replies, 'No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.'
Husband replies, 'I can't believe that, show me.'
So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says . 'HEBREWS'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Silent Treatment
A man and his wife were having some problems at home
and were giving each other the silent treatment.
Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him
at 5:0 0 AM for an early morning business flight.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, 'Please wake me at 5:00 AM.' He left it where he knew she would find it.
The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.' Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece .

Herbs for Absent Menstruation (if You are not pregnant)

Two to four cups of any of these teas can be taken per day. More can be taken if desired, as these teas are considered non-toxic to adults, unless otherwise noted.

PARSLEY - my personal favorite for stimulating a delayed period, I discovered it while traveling in Mexico, after not having a period for two months, when my period would have been due on the third month I used the dried herb and brewed a tea, I drank 3 maybe 4 cups that afternoon and the next morning I had begun to bleed.

Parsley is easily obtained at just about any local market or grocery store in the produce section, It can be used fresh or dried, I've used it successfully both ways. Just throw a handful of the fresh herb in a pot of freshly boiled water, cover and let steep for 20-30 minutes, strain and drink. Recently I tried a parsley tincture that I made, and it did not seem to have any effect.

GINGER Another easily obtained herb, again right from the grocery store, or many kitchens are already stocked with the powdered herb, I like fresh ginger, but you can use either. It is a stimulating herb, so it might not be a good choice right before bedtime. It may make you sweat, or you might experience a hot flash, this is normal for ginger. Chop the fresh root and boil in water for 20 minutes, remove from heat, allow to cool a bit and drink. If you experience nausea while using ginger tea you may be pregnant.
Caution: those with a history of gall stones should use ginger with caution.

YARROW (Achillea millefolium) Grows in most of the northern hemisphere and is easily identified with the use of a good field guide, and is carried by most herb shops. One of my visitors says "the cold herb tea, 3-4 cups taken a day when menstruation is late. It works perfectly for me. I know I can count on it."

SAGE a common garden herb, taken as an infusion.

ROSEMARY a common garden herb, used as an infusion.

FEVERFEW another herb commonly found in an herb garden, taken as an infusion. Not exceeding four cups per day.

10 Great Detox Foods

Lemon
Lemons are a staple of many detox diets, and there is good reason for this. Firstly, lemons are packed with antioxidant vitamin C, which is great for the skin and for fighting disease-forming free-radicals. Furthermore, the citrus fruit has an alkaline effect on the body, meaning that it can help restore the body's pH balance, benefitting the immune system. Try starting your day with hot water and a slice of lemon to help flush out toxins and cleanse your system.

Ginger
If too much fatty food or alcohol has caused problems for your digestive system, it may be worthwhile adding some ginger to your diet. Ginger is not only great for reducing feelings of nausea, but it can help improve digestion, beat bloating and reduce gas. In addition to this, ginger is high in antioxidants and is good for boosting the immune system. To give your digestion a helping hand, try sipping on ginger tea or adding some freshly grated ginger to a fruit or vegetable juice.

Garlic
Garlic has long been known for its heart benefits, however the pungent food is also good at detoxifying the body. Garlic is not only antiviral, antibacterial and antibiotic, but it contains a chemical called allicin which promotes the production of white blood cells and helps fight against toxins. Garlic is best eaten raw, so add some crushed garlic to a salad dressing to boost its flavour and your health at the same time.

Artichoke
If you have recently been overindulging in fatty foods and alcohol, adding some steamed globe artichoke leaves to your meals is a great way to help get your body back on track. Globe artichokes are packed with antioxidants and fibre and can also help the body digest fatty foods. On top of this, globe artichoke is renowned for its ability to stimulate and improve the functions of the liver - the body's main toxin-fighting tool.

Beetroot
For those needing a quick health-boosting shot of nutrients, you can't do much better than beetroot. Packed with magnesium, iron, and vitamin C, the vegetable has recently been hailed as a superfood due to its many reported health benefits. Not only is beetroot great for skin, hair and cholesterol levels, but it can also help support liver detoxification, making it an ultimate detox food. To enjoy its benefits, try adding raw beetroot to salads or sipping on some beetroot juice.

Green tea
While it's not technically a food, no detox plan would be complete without regular consumption of essential liquids. Fluids are essential for keeping our organs healthy and helping to flush toxins from the body, and drinking green tea is a great way of boosting your intake. Green tea is not only a good weight-loss drink, but it is extremely high in antioxidants. Research has also suggested that drinking green tea can protect the liver from diseases including fatty liver disease.

Cabbage
Many celebs have resorted to the cabbage soup diet to help lose weight and get in shape quickly before a big event, however cabbage is not only good for weight loss - it is also an excellent detoxifying food. Like most cruciferous vegetables (including broccoli and sprouts), cabbage contains a chemical called sulforaphane, which helps the body fight against toxins. Cabbage also supplies the body with glutathione; an antioxidant that helps improve the detoxifying function of the liver.

Fresh fruit
Fresh fruits are high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre= and are also low in calories, making them an important part of a detox diet. If you're after brighter eyes and skin, shinier hair and improved digestion, try boosting your intake of fruit and eating from a wide variety of different kinds. The good news is fruit is easy to add to your diet, so try starting your day with a fresh fruit salad or smoothie and snacking on pieces of fruit throughout the day.

Brown rice
If you want to cleanse your system and boost your health, it is a good idea to cut down on processed foods. Instead, try supplementing your diet with healthier whole grains such as brown rice, which is rich in many key detoxifying nutrients including B vitamins, magnesium, manganese and phosphorous. Brown rice is also high in fibre, which is good for cleansing the colon, and rich in selenium, which can help to protect the liver as well as improving the complexion.

Watercress
Like most green herbs and vegetables, watercress is an excellent health-booster and detox food. Firstly, watercress leaves are packed with many vital detoxifying nutrients, including several B vitamins, zinc, potassium, vitamin E and vitamin C. Secondly, watercress has natural diuretic properties, which can help to flush toxins out the body. To reap the benefits of this nutritious food, try adding a handful of watercress to salads, soups and sandwiches.

Things women should know to stay safe

sharing from my inbox
Please take the time to read these pointers. There may just be one or two you hadn't thought of. After reading this, forward it to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it!
2. If a robber asks for your handbag, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... he is probably more interested in your handbag than you and he will go for the handbag. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the boot of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm through the hole and start waving. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their
cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their cheque book, or making a list). DON'T DO THIS! A predator could be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, and attack you. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a car park: A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and check the back seat. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most attackers surprise their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the shop, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the lift instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone (and the perfect crime spot.)
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street & get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door. "He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear babies' cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night. Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby. I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well. Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better safe than sorry. The above is directed at women but remember, guys you may also be targeted the same way or your girlfriend/wife.

Old Wives Tales

The List  of most popular old wives tales

1. Don't breathe in when driving past a cemetery

There are a lot of old wives tales about cemetery's and the dead, but one of the most persistent is the old wives tale that says you must hold your breath when you drive past a cemetery or you'll breathe in the spirit of someone who died and was buried there recently. There is a similar old wives tale that says you shouldn't step on a grave, but if you should have to you should walk quickly and hold your breath so that you do not inhale the spirit of the person in the grave.

This is an old wives tale that is rooted more in spooky tales than it is in fact. You can safely breathe when you drive past or even walk through a cemetery. While it's not nice to step on a grave, you can do so without inhaling the spirit of the recently departed! Cemeteries and death are fuel for much speculation and old wives tales, so when you pass them along, do it with humor!

2. Hair

The 'crowning glory' is one of the most indestructible parts of the body. As such, a sudden loss of hair is unlucky, forecasting a decline in health, loss of property or failure in business, or the death of a closely related child. Red hair is associated with fiery-tempered people (e.g. Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I); black and dark brown hair indicate strength; fair hair implies timidity. On a man, if the hair grows low on the forehead and back above the temples he will have a long life; if a woman's hair grows in a low point on her forehead ('widow's peak') she will outlive her husband. If a woman suddenly develops curls on her forehead her man has not long to live.

Lank hair = a cunning nature; Curly hair = good natured, full of fun; Long hair = strength (e.g. Samson) and luck.

It is said to be unlucky to have your hair cut when the moon is in the wane as this will cause it to fall out and lose its lustre. Cutting your own hair will tempt fate. To determine your future: set fire to some strands of your hair - cut them off first!. If they burn brightly, you are in for a long life. If they splutter and smoulder, it is said to be a death omen. Never pull out grey hairs, for one will be replaced by ten. It has often been believed that a sudden fright can turn hair white.

3. Death

BIRD
A bird in the house is a sign of a death. If a robin flies into a room through a window, death will shortly follow.

CANDLE
Light candles on the night after November 1. One for each deceased relative should be placed in the window in the room where death occurred.

CEMETERY
You must hold your breath while going past a cemetery or you will breathe in the spirit of someone who has recently died.

CLOCK
If a clock which has not been working suddenly chimes, there will be a death in the family. You will have bad luck if you do not stop the clock in the room where someone dies.

CORPSE
If a woman is buried in black, she will return to haunt the family. If a dead person's eyes are left open, he'll find someone to take with him. Mirrors in a house with a corpse should be covered or the person who sees himself will die next.

DOG
Dogs howling in the dark of night, Howl for death before daylight.

DREAMS
If you dream of death it's a sign of a birth, if you dream of birth, it's a sign of death. If you touch a loved one who has died, you won't have dreams about them

DYING
A person who dies on Good Friday will go right to heaven. A person who dies at midnight on Christmas Eve will go straight to heaven because the gates of heaven are open at that time. All windows should be opened at the moment of death so that the soul can leave. The soul of a dying person can't escape the body and go to heaven if any locks are locked in the house.

EYE
If the left eye twitches there will soon be a death in the family. If a dead person's eyes are left open, he'll find someone to take with him.

FUNERAL
Funerals on Friday portend another death in the family during the year. It's bad luck to count the cars in a funeral cortege. It's bad luck to meet a funeral procession head on. Thunder following a funeral means that the dead person's soul has reached heaven. Nothing new should be worn to a funeral, especially new shoes. Pointing at a funeral procession will cause you to die within the month Pregnant women should not attend funerals.

GRAVE
If the person buried lived a good life, flowers will grow on the grave. If the person was evil, weeds will grow.

MIRROR
If a mirror in the house falls and breaks by itself, someone in the house will die soon.

MOTH
A white moth inside the house or trying to enter the house means death.

PHOTOGRAPH
If 3 people are photographed together, the one in the middle will die first.

THIRTEEN
If 13 people sit down at a table to eat, one of them will die before the year is over.

UMBRELLA
Dropping an umbrella on the floor means that there will be a murder in the house.

4. Chicken Soup

Chicken soup is good for the soul (and the odd cold too!)

The trouble with old wives’ tales and urban health myths? There’s a ton of conflicting research - so even though we last week suggested that this was a myth, there is actually a grain of truth to the old saying! According to a study published in the journal Chest, chicken soup can help mitigate the inflammatory response associated with colds and other upper-respiratory infections. Under further examination, the researchers determined that the vegetables and chicken included in the soup each individually had inhibitory activity, although they note that the potency of the effects determined very much on how the soup was made, with commercial soups differing the most in their inhibitory activity.

5. Medical Myths and Wives' Tales

Here are an old wivestales about medical beliefs

Maybe most educated nurse practitioners would disagree and have a good laugh about most of these today.

this is by Diane Griffith, HealthAtoZ writer

(a) "Don't cross your eyes - they'll get stuck that way!" Remember hearing that as a child? You probably figured out on your own - when your eyes didn't stay crossed - that it wasn't true. Some old wives' tales, though, aren't as easy to debunk, since they are repeated so often and believed by so many. Ask yourself these true-false questions to see if you can separate medical fact from medical myth.

(b) You can catch poison ivy from someone who has it.
False. The only way to get the rash is from contact with the oil (urushiol) of the poison ivy plant. As long as urushiol has been washed off, you can't catch poison ivy from exposure to the rash.

(c) Reading in dim light or sitting too close to the TV damages your eyes.
False. You can't damage your eyes by using them, unless you stare into the sun.

(d) Hair and fingernails continue to grow after death.
False. The skin around hair and nails retracts after death, giving them the illusion of growth.

(e) Shaving your hair causes it to grow back darker, coarser and faster.
False. If this were true, all men who shave would have dark, coarse beards.

(f) Swallowed gum is harmful to the digestive system.
False. Swallowing gum really presents no danger. Contrary to what we've all heard, it doesn't remain in our stomachs for seven years. Gum passes swiftly through the digestive system, but because of the body's inability to break it down, exits the body looking pretty much the same as when it entered.

(g) Knuckle-cracking causes arthritis.
False. No evidence exists that this is true.

(h) Drinking warm milk makes you sleepy.
True. Milk contains tryptophan, a chemical that induces sleep.

(i) You can get the flu from the flu shot.
False. The vaccine is made up of inactive organisms that cannot cause the flu.

(j) We use only 10 percent of our brains.
False. Scans of the brain reveal 100 percent activity. In the course of a day, every part of the brain is used.

(k) It's easier for a couple to conceive if the man wears boxer shorts instead of briefs.
False. Underwear type doesn't affect fertility.

(l) Eating turkey causes drowsiness.
True. Turkey does contain tryptophan, which can make you sleepy especially when eaten on an empty stomach.

(m) You should wait one hour after eating before swimming.
False. As long as you aren't uncomfortably bloated, there's no need to wait.

(n) Teething causes fever, runny nose and diarrhea.
False. These symptoms may happen during teething, but aren't caused by it. (But, you still need to talk to your doctor about your baby's symptoms even if they are teething.)

(o) Before modern pregnancy tests, if a rabbit injected with a woman's urine died, the woman was pregnant.
False. The rabbit died whether or not there was a pregnancy. It was killed so its ovaries could be examined. Certain changes meant the woman was pregnant.

6. And a few more.

If your nose is itching, someone is talking about you.

If your hand is itching, that means you are about to get money.

If an Atkins diet won't work, your only solution is a Medifast Diet.

A cat will steal your baby’s breath if you let them near a newborn.

If you cross your eyes, they will get stuck.

If you hold a aspirin between your legs you wont get pregnant.

If you keep making an ugly face its going to stay that way.

Touching a toad will give you warts.

Drinking coffee will stunt your growth.

For African-Americans, drinking black coffee will make you darker.

Eating bread crust would make your hair curly

If a woman’s carrying low, it’s a boy; if she’s carrying high, it’s a girl.

A bat in the house is a sign of a death.

When you see a funeral procession go by, you have to make the sign of the cross or someone in your family will be next.

A dog howling at night when someone in the house is sick is a bad sign

Step on a crack will break your mothers back.

Knock on wood so you don’t jinx youself.

If it rains on your wedding day, you'll cry plenty of tears throughout your marriage.
