Benefits of Ginger & Barley

Migraine - boil pandan (pandanus--screw pine leaves) leaves with ginger, take 2-3 X per day. It helps to
reduce tumor size and reduce swollen of cells in the head which cause migraine.
Lemon-grass - just boil water with lemongrass. This is for general health and anti-cancer. Many people
spoke about this, and have been drinking. You can order lemon-grass drink at thai restaurants normally.
I have been drinking too.

Formula 1 is from my sis-in-law. She suffers migraine for long time. And after 1-mth drinking it, she has
not experience any migraine so far.

Formula 2 is from my mom-in-law. She got this from a friend in Sarawak . She has recommended many people,
and was told received good comments after consuming.

Cancer Killer: Ginger & Barley

The powerful healing effects of ginger have been well documented. It's a proven remedy for upset stomach.
Reams of studies show that it inhibits inflammation. And there is substantial evidence that it fights
cancer too.

For instance, a recent University of Michigan study showed that when ginger was added to ovarian cancer
cells in the laboratory, it caused the cancer cells to self-destruct (a process known as "apoptosis") .

In a separate study at the University of Minnesota , researchers injected colon cancer cells into mice
that were bred to have no immune system.

Half of these mice were routinely fed gingerol, the main active component in ginger. The researchers
found that the mice that were fed gingerol lived longer, their tumors were smaller, and the cancer did
not spread as widely as in the control group

With all these health benefits, you should be using ginger as often as you can. The best way I've found
to get a healthy serving of ginger is
to juice it. (The brand of juicer I use is an Omega.) Two or three days a week, I juice an apple or two,
some carrots, spinach, broccoli,
cabbage, and a big piece of ginger root.

The ginger gives the drink a great flavor and a powerful anti-cancer kick.

I highly recommend that you try it.

Healing and Cleansing with Barley
------------ --------- --------- -------

High in fiber, barley is also a kidney cleanser. Better yet, regular intake of it helps prevent heart
disease. BARLEY water was always a regular drink when we were still living at home. Whenever we had to go
for a medical exam that included a urine test, my mum would make us drink barley water a day before it to
make sure we got a positive result!

Barley is good for your intestinal health too. Try to eat the barley grains you find in your drink or
sweet broth with fu chook (beancurd skin) and ginkgo nuts.

It's high in fiber which feeds the friendly bacteria in the colon and helps speed up the transit of fecal
matter in it. In this way it helps prevent haemorrhoids and colon cancer.

The propionic acid and beta glucan from barley's insoluble fiber also help lower cholesterol and prevent
the formation of gallstones.

Eating barley regularly is a preventive step against heart disease as, besides the fibre content, it is
also high in niacin, a B vitamin good for
lowering cholesterol. ...

Diabetics should eat more barley as the fibre will prevent blood sugar levels from rising too high. It
also provides relief from constipation or diarrhea for those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Barley is rich in selenium which prevents cancer and relieves symptoms of asthma and arthritis. It is a
good source of manganese, copper and phosphorous.

Malt sugar comes from sprouted barley which, when fermented, is an ingredient in beer and other alcoholic

Barley, whose Latin name is "hordeum vulgare", has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years.

Since ancient times, barley has been used for healing purposes and has bee! n known to the Chinese,
Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Athletes in Greece and Rome in those days were known to eat barley bread to
give them strength.

Benefits of Pineapple

Fresh Pineapple Has Many Benefits....

image from google

The pineapple is a member of the bromeliad family. It is extremely rare that bromeliads produce edible fruit. The pineapple is the only available edible bromeliad today. It is a multiple fruit. One pineapple is actually made up of dozens of individual flowerettes that grow together to form the entire fruit.

Each scale on a pineapple is evidence of a separate flower. Pineapples stop ripening the minute they are picked. No special way of storing them will help ripen them further. Color is relatively unimportant in determining ripeness.

Choose your pineapple by smell. If it smells fresh, tropical and sweet, it will be a good fruit. The more scales on the pineapple, the sweeter and juicier the taste.

After you cut off the top, you can plant it. It should grow much like a sweet potato will. This delicious fruit is not only sweet and tropical, it also offers many benefits to our health.

Pineapple is a remarkable fruit. We find it enjoyable because of its lush, sweet and exotic flavor, but it may also be one of the most healthful foods available today. If we take a more detailed look at it,we will find that pineapple is valuable for easing indigestion, arthritis or sinusitis.

The juice has an anthelmintic effect; it helps get rid of intestinal

Let's look at how pineapple affects other conditions. Pineapple is high in manganese, a mineral that is critical to development of strong bones and connective tissue. A cup of fresh pineapple will give you nearly 75% of the recommended daily amount. It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to become brittle with age.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme, is the key to pineapple's value.
Proteolytic means "breaks down protein", which is why pineapple is known
to be a digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more efficiently.

Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory. Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily is purported to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. It produces mild pain relief. In Germany, bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication because it is thought to reduce inflammation and swelling.

Orange juice is a popular liquid for those suffering from a cold because it is high in Vitamin C. Fresh pineapple is not only high in this vitamin, but because of the bromelain, it has the ability to reduce mucous in the throat.

If you have a cold with a productive cough, add pineapple to your diet. It is commonly used in Europe as a post-operative measure to cut mucous after certain sinus and throat operations. Those individuals who eat fresh pineapple daily report fewer sinus problems related to allergies. In and of itself, pineapple has a very low risk for allergies.

Pineapple is also known to discourage blood clot development. This makes it a valuable dietary addition for frequent fliers and others who may be at risk for blood clots.

An old folk remedy for morning sickness is fresh pineapple juice. It really works! Fresh juice and some nuts first thing in the morning often makes a difference. It's also good for a healthier mouth. The fresh juice discourages plaque growth .

There might not be a perfect cure for asthma, but we can find many superfoods with a nutrient profile that is particularly well suited for preventing and alleviating asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing and chest tightness. Let’s take a look at 12 such foods and their asthma fighting qualities.

1. AVOCADOS - is one of the prime source of Glutathione, which has been shown to protect cells against free radical damage and to detoxify foreign substances such as pollutants. Without glutathione, other antioxidants would not be able not function efficiently. Avocados are also a good source of vitamin E, particularly for people whose asthma is linked to a nut allergy (nuts are one of the most common sources of vitamin E). However, if you have been diagnosed with a latex allergy, you may want to be careful with avocados, particularly non-organically grown produce. Many suggests that people who are allergic to latex are often also allergic to avocados and other foods that may contain substances called chitinases. Organically grown avocados not treated with ethylene gas contain lower levels of chitinases.

2. BROCCOLI SPROUTS - are true nutritional treasure and a great addition to your diet if you suffer from asthma. A recent study found that the study participants who ate broccoli sprouts for 3 days had an increase in antioxidant compounds that control the airway inflammation associated with bronchial asthma. The effect was most pronounced in those who ate the most broccoli sprouts. Available at many health food stores and grocery stores, broccoli sprouts make a great addition to salads, soups, salsa-topped dishes, and sandwiches.

3. APPLES - Studies show that apples possess some extraordinary properties that may provide protection against asthma. One study discovered that pregnant women who ate apples protected their child from developing asthma. Another study found that by drinking apple juice daily children could reduce their chance of suffering from wheezing by 50%. These beneficial effects of apples may be linked to their high concentration of bioflavonoids, such as quercetin. Quercetin is known to possess strong anti-histamine, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. When buying apples, be sure to purchase organically grown fruit: together with peaches, conventionally grown apples top the list of fruits that contain the highest levels of pesticides and other harmful chemicals.

4. BANANAS - Including bananas in your diet may help you breathe easier. According to a British study, children who ate just one banana a day had a 34% lower chance of developing asthmatic symptoms such as wheezing. The results where not surprising considering that bananas are one of the best sources of pyridoxine, commonly known as vitamin B6. Pyridoxine plays a critical role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), molecules that have been shown to help relax bronchial smooth muscle tissue.

5. GINGER - one of the oldest spices in the world, is well known for its cold treating powers, but it may also help alleviate asthma symptoms. Its asthma fighting properties are thought to be attributable to gingerols, strong anti-inflammatory substances that also give ginger its distinctive flavor. Fresh ginger, which is said to be the most effective form of ginger, is available year round in the produce section of your local supermarket.

6. SPINACH - Popeye was right about one thing: you'd better eat your spinach! The nutritional profile of spinach makes it an excellent health food and an important functional food to be included in any anti-asthma diet. One study with 68,535 female participants found that women with a high intake of spinach had a lower prevalence of asthma. This is not surprising considering that spinach features a host of important asthma preventing nutrients, including beta-carotene (spinach is one of the best sources of beta-carotene there is), vitamin C, vitamin E, and magnesium. It also has a substantial potassium content in proportion to its calorie content: a 100 calorie serving provides about 40% of the reference daily intake for this important anti-asthma mineral.

7. ROSEMARY - It contains rosmarinic acid, that may help alleviate asthma symptoms due to its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The antioxidant power of rosmarinic acid is believed to be even stronger than that of vitamin E. In addition, rosmarinic acid encourages cells to create prostacyclins, which help keep the air passages of the lungs open and thus promote easy breathing. Rosemary can be used to flavor fish, roast meats, and tomato sauces, but also fruits, especially oranges.

8. SUNFLOWER SEEDS - are brimming of anti-asthma nutrients, as these mild nutty tasting seeds are loaded with vitamin E, potassium, and magnesium. They are also a good source of selenium, with 1 cup providing more than 1/3 of the recommended daily intake for this important mineral. Furthermore, sunflower seeds are among the seeds and nuts that are least likely to cause allergic reactions in people. But, be careful while consuming them, as they are quite calorie-dense.

9. SWEET POTATOES - are one of the oldest vegetables known to man and one of the most nutritious too. Sweet potatoes are one of the foods that are least likely to cause allergic reactions, which is great news since asthma is often linked to allergies. What’s more, sweet potatoes contain plenty of vitamin C and potassium as well as unique root proteins which, according to preliminary studies, may have significant antioxidant properties. The pink, orange, and yellow varieties are also one of the most concentrated food sources of beta-carotene (the more intense the color, the more beta-carotene).

10. KALE - This relatively unknown member of the cabbage family is a nutritional powerhouse packed with vitamins and other phytochemicals that have been shown to alleviate symptoms associated with asthma. Not only is kale a great source of vitamin C, it is also one of the most concentrated dietary sources of beta-carotene (kale contains 10 times the beta-carotene of broccoli). Kale can be eaten raw, for example as a substitute for iceberg lettuce in salads. The beautiful green leaves of kale can also be transformed into a savory warm dish by sautéing the leaves and mixing them with chopped onions, crushed garlic and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

11. TURMERIC - a spice that lends its yellow color to curries and many other foods, has long been used in traditional Asian medicine to treat asthma and many other conditions and diseases. In recent years, western medicine has started to pay greater attention to this extraordinary spice. Recent research suggests that turmeric possesses strong anti-inflammatory properties. Although best known for its use in Indian style curries, turmeric can also be used to add flavor and color to fish, seafood, meat, rice, vegetable, and pasta dishes.

12. MUSTARD GREENS - Chock-full of antioxidants and nutrients, mustard greens can make an excellent addition to your diet if you are susceptible to asthma attacks. In addition to being one of the best sources of beta-carotene, they provide a good amount of vitamin C and vitamin E. The nutrients in mustard greens can remove free radicals that cause smooth muscle contraction and airway constriction in people with asthma. Moreover, they may aid in the breakdown of histamine. Mustard greens with their distinctly peppery flavor are available throughout the year and can be found in the produce section of your local supermarket.

Like said before, no food can actually “cure” asthma; but only provide relief for asthma symptoms, in a long run of consumption. So, if you are asthmatic, or prone to frequent attacks, don’t forget these nutrient-rich foods that may help alleviate your asthma symptoms.

The time of Month

It is time of that month, what should I eat, not eat...etc?

In my memory and experience. In Phils. I was thought to not take a bath on a first day and once my grandmother told me don't wash to often down there if you are having period.(Find this ludicrous actually)They believe by washing too often wind would go in there and will cause you more cramps. On foods I have always been particular on food. What should I eat and not eat and drink during this time of month? I will share with you some of the things I follow, and some info's I found on some websites :-D

Foods that should  be avoided

Sweets, soda, cake or candy -  to prevent a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fatigue.
Beverages containing caffeine. - It is advisable to drink barley tea or mint tea.

Alcohol – But beers do wonders for me before – it reduces my pain and cramps

Tea – Some women will get a heavy flow due to the tannins tea contains but me it will stop the flow.So this depends on some women.

Salty food. - It will makes you retain water and give you a puffy and bloated feeling.
Acidic, pungent and stimulating foods - hawthorn berries, sauerkraut, vinegar, pepper, mustard etc.

Cold Water
Chiled fruits, desserts and drinks – it will cause cramps and spotting
Cooling Herbal Tea - Chinese believe that ladies should avoid taking cooling food and drinks during period. So herbal tea and drinks like barley or chrysanthemum tea should be avoided.

Certain Fruits - Pineapples and water melons. Both fruits are considered “cooling” and pineapples in particular will increase the menstrual flow and your menstrual blood will get a foul smell. Other such as pears, water chestnuts, wax gourds also to be avoided.

Dairy Food. This doesn’t apply for all women, but its better to take caution as dairy food might make women feel terrible.
Suggested Foods and Drinks
Warm water -  Will make your body feel warm and thus pain will be reduced .Also advisable to drink days before you know your period is coming to prevent and lower the pain.
Chocolates - acccording to some websites, it’s good to eat chocolates contains complex carbohydrates that helps your body expose off excess progesterone, which is the main culprit of PMS.
Iron Rich Foods – to replace the iron loss – lots of veget

If you are having cramps – drink a glass of warm water, rest and lie down on your stomach.

If you think anything above is wrong, please comment.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that heat promotes blood circulation while the cold slows it down. Eating cold foods not only hinders digestion but also harms the body's yangqi, causing the production of internal cold, which causes stagnation. It will slow down the circulation of blood, causing a lack of blood and even dysmenorrhea.

Suggested Foods for Menstruating Women

1. Women should pay attention to having balanced servings of vegetables and meat to prevent an iron deficiency. Iron is necessary in the synthesis of hemoglobin and many important enzymes, and it is also important for the immune system, the memory, the aging prevention, and in metabolism. During the menstrual period, due to the loss of iron, it is very important for women to consume foods rich in iron. Fish, liver and animal blood all contain iron that is easily absorbed by the body. While some vegetables such as soybeans and spinach are also rich in iron, they are less easily absorbed by the body. During their menstrual period women should eat more meat to meet their body's iron needs.

2. Women should eat more warm foods such as kelp, jujube, husked sorghum grain, mutton, onion, auricularia auricula, longan, roses, etc. If you eat cold foods or ice, you should drink brown sugar and ginger to balance and promote the circulation of blood within the body.

3. Women should eat more foods rich in high fiber such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, brown rice, and oatmeal. These foods promote hormone production and increase the level of magnesium in the blood. It can regularize the cycle and calm the nerves. Women who lose a lot of blood should eat more spinach, jujubes or raisins, foods that contain a lot of fiber.

4. Eat more protein. .Women should eat food containing high protein like meat, eggs, tofu and soybeans to supplement the nutrients and minerals that are lost during the cycle. Women facing menopause should eat foods rich in calcium, like milk and dried fish.

Moral Dilemma

Today we have a bit of a moral and ethical dilemma for you to ponder...
You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass
by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car? Think before you continue reading...

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a
job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; Or, you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming
up with his answer. He simply answered: "I would give the car keys to my
old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay
behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought
limitations. Never forget to 'Think Outside of the Box,' the mind it a powerful thing !

Fact about Apple

Apples are a member of the rose family.

Archeologists have found evidence that humans have been enjoying apples since at least 6500 B.C.
The apple tree originated in an area between the Caspian and the Black Sea.
Apple varieties range in size from a little larger than a cherry to as large as a grapefruit. There are apples that have an aftertaste of pears, citrus, cinnamon, cloves, coconut, strawberries, grapes and even pineapple!

Planting an apple seed from a particular apple will not produce a tree of that same variety. The seed is a cross of the tree the fruit was grown on and the variety that was the cross pollinator.

Apples have five seed pockets or carpels. Each pocket contains seeds. The number of seeds per carpel is determined by the vigor and health of the plant. Different varieties of apples will have different number of seeds.

It takes energy from 50 leaves to produce one apple.

Fresh apples float because 25% of their volume is air (thank goodness, or none of us would have ever experienced bobbing for apples!).
Apples ripen six to ten times faster at room temperature than if they were refrigerated. For optimal storage, apples should be kept at 35-40 degrees with relative humidity of 80-90%.

A bushel of apples weighs approximately 42 pounds, or 19kg. A peck of apples weighs 10.5 pounds, or 4.8kg.

The average U.S. consumer eats an estimated 45 pounds of apples a year. Europeans consumers eat 46 pounds a year.

Sixty percent of the 2002 U.S. apple crop was eaten as fresh fruit, while 39 percent was processed into apple products, and 1 percent was not marketed. Of the 39 percent of the crop that was processed, 18 percent was used in juice and cider; 3 percent was dried; 2 percent was frozen; and 12 percent was canned. Other uses include the making of baby food, apple butter or jelly, and vinegar.

The apple is the official state fruit of Rhode Island, New York, Washington, and West Virginia. The apple blossom (Pyrus coronaria) is the official state flower of Arkansas and Michigan.

The old saying "an apple a day, keeps the doctor away" comes from am old English adage, "To eat an apple before going to bed, will make the doctor beg his bread."

Story of Two Screws

Once upon a time there were two screws fastening a vital part of a gasoline engine. One of the screws was haughty and proud of it's shining head. The second screw was quiet, intent only on doing its job to the best of its ability.

One day a speck of rust appeared on the head of the second screw. Filled with vain pride of its own beauty, the first screw began to laugh at the second. "Your head is tarnished," the first said to the second. "Look at you. Your perfect luster is gone."

The second screw said nothing. Instead, it concentrated on what it was doing. "How ugly you have become," the first screw chortled, "and how beautiful I have remained." Then it began to laugh so hard at the second screw that it failed to notice that it was working itself loose. Finally it dropped off the engine and plunged into a small pool of dirty oil below.

With the first screw no longer holding up its end of the load, the second was faced with doing the work of two. Meanwhile the first screw, now covered with grimy oil, wailed and lamented. "Just look at me! I'm dirty and filthy and all my beauty is gone. By laughing at the blemish on my friend the second screw, I worked myself loose and fell into the muck. Now I'm doomed."

Now, it just so happened that a short time later the owner of the engine started it up. He immediately noticed that something didn't sound right -- the engine was running rough. When he checked, he instantly saw that one of the two screws holding the vital part was missing. "Ah ha!" the owner said. "One of the screws must have worked itself loose and fell to the ground, but I don't see it. Maybe it fell into that puddle of old oil."

The owner reached into the oil and found the missing screw. "Look at you," the owner said. "You're all covered with grime and oil. How ugly you are. But I will fix that right away." The owner reached for a nearby rag and wiped all the oil and grime off the first screw until it shone even brighter than before. Then he replaced it on the part. Before he turned away, he noticed a little speck of tarnish on the head of the second screw. With the second rag, he wiped the head clean and bright. Then the owner walked away.

Finally the engine was started. The two screws, now equally beautiful, held the part tight. "Forgive me, my friend," the first screw said to the second. "In my vanity, I was so busy laughing at your blemish that I did not notice that I was working myself loose."

"And what have you learned?" the second screw quietly asked.
"I learned not to judge others because I have my own sins to deal with."
"Then," the second screw said, "I forgive you."

"Thank you, my friend. And rest assured, my vanity will remain forever at the bottom of that dirty puddle of oil."

Black Fungus (Mok Yee)

Sharing some useful info to all :-

Treatment for high cholesterol (Reduction Blood Platelets )

I want to share a secret for treating high cholesterol. Three weeks ago l went for a cholesterol check. To my surprise, it was above the normal range which should be less than 5.2 mmol/L.

My reading obtained was 6.6 mmol/L. I had been consuming a lot of red meat and lamb recently. After consuming Black Fungus for two weeks, l had my cholesterol checked again and found that my cholesterol level fell to 4.70 mmol/L My pharmacist said that even cholesterol medication will need 1- 3 months to take effect. She was very surprised and said it is a miracle.

Review: I immediately followed an advice of a friend who told me about Black Fungus (黑木耳- Black Fungus). He had four block heart arteries, over 90 percent blocked. His cardiologist advised him to go for bypass surgery, failing which he would suffer an imminent heart attack. His sinseh (Chinese physician) friend advised him against surgery as the procedure would be messy, painful and expensive. He followed the advice of his sinseh friend by consuming Black Fungus daily. After consuming boiled Black Fungus juice for 40 days, he went for an angiogram. His heart specialist was surprised and shocked that his arteries were all cleared of any blockage and it would not be necessary to see him for another 10 years! My observation is that Black Fungus juice is not only effective in treating high blood cholesterol but also helps to bring relief to joint paints, arthritis and poor blood circulation. The internet information claims that Black Fungus reduces blood clot, preventing thrombosis, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease and cancer. Black Fungus contains abundant protein, ferric, calcium, vitamin, rough fiber, the content of protein is equal to meat. 黑木耳Black Fungus (Cloud Ears) (fresh)

1) Pick a hand full of Black Fungus and soak in water for 1-2 hours

Ever Wonder why?

Why do supermarkets make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front?

Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Why do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage.

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavoring, and dish washing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
